Solitude does not necessarily mean loneliness

There are days when loneliness hits you right in the chest. Then there are those quiet moments where you’re absolutely alone with your thoughts and are completely okay with the silence.

Solitude is cathartic in a way. Being on your own should be a thing we’re all okay with. If we can not be at peace when we are with ourselves, then how can we be at peace when we are in the company of others; with each other.

Moments of contemplation lead to clarity in our thoughts. That is why meditation is thought to be an anti-depressant. Letting your thoughts follow the path they are taking, at a mellow speed is the most calming experience ever. It binds your ideas of life together. It illuminates all aspects of the secrets of this world.

Do you enjoy moments alone? Where are your favourite places of solitude?

I spend atleast 15 minutes everyday, in my own kind of nest, just taking a moment to organise the thoughts racing through my ever noisy mind.

  1. I love being by water, preferably the sea but as I live inland that doesn’t happen very often so it’s a real treat. I can also find real peace and joy just being in the garden (when everyone else is at work/school that is) and just let the sounds of nature gently wash over me – the soft rustle of the trees, the sweet sound of the birds… love it.

  2. I take around 15-20 minutes a day where I settle myself down in a confound place whether it is the silent area in the library or my bedroom where I am isolated from everyone else. This is when I reflect on myself and just enjoy my own company. My favorite place to gather my thoughts is on a beach as I just get caught looking at the beautiful sight and feel my thoughts flowing to the sound of the waves hitting the shore. I feel that I am most comfortable and peaceful when surrounded by the fascinating creatures created by the Almighty, it may be the sound of birds or a frog in the background.
